Volunteering

by midwestpagestop...

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with thte Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project. The best way to get involved is to just stop by our project.  We are located at

118 S Rogers
Suite #2
Bloomington, IN 47404

This is in the building on the NW corner of 4th St. and Rogers that also houses the Ryder Magazine in the Near West Side neighborhood of Bloomington.

Our weekly volunteer hours are:

  • Thursday 8-11pm (7-11pm during the Fall and Spring Indiana University semesters)
  • Sunday 2-5pm.
  • Monday 7-9pm (during the Fall and Spring Indiana University semesters)

Many volunteers just show up for a few hours once a week or once every other week. The tasks that most of our volunteers do are relatively simple, but require a lot of creative and critical thinking. Most volunteers help by reading letters from people in prison who are requesting books from our project. They then search the shelves of our project, filled with books that have been donated by members of our community, to find books that appropriately match what the person in prison is looking for and package them with a personal response to the person in prison.

If you have any further questions about volunteering with our project, please feel free to contact us at mwpp@pagestoprisoners.org. If you are affiliated with Indiana University, you should contact Searle Slutzkin at seaslutz@indiana.edu.  Searle is an IU student who coordinates volunteering between our project and IU.
